Greater Bay Airlines CEO Liza Ng Shiow-lan refuted claims that the company had been too aggressive in arranging flights after the cancellation of 128 flights between Japan, South Korea, and Thailand scheduled for February and March.
Speaking on a radio program on Thursday morning, Ng said that the cancellations were due to several factors, including a decline in passengers’ desire to travel to Thailand, which prompted the carrier to consolidate routes.
The airline earlier announced that delays in the delivery of new aircraft from Boeing and regular inspections of existing fleets also affected flight arrangements.
“We have been in close contact with Boeing and are informed that the new aircraft will be delivered in the third quarter,” Ng said.
She also denied that the airline is selling tickets while knowing the risks or overselling them.
Ng admitted the company’s failure in passenger notification, adding that staff have been arranged to work overtime to contact affected passengers and provide assistance.
