A 36-year-old man was arrested by the national security police for allegedly posting content with seditious intent on social media.
Defendant Li Chun-kit has been charged with one count of "knowingly publishing publications that had a seditious intention" and the case was mentioned at West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts on Wednesday afternoon.
Investigation showed that Li was suspected of repeatedly publishing posts provoking hatred towards the government, police, and Judiciary, calling for sanctions against government officials as well as inciting violence during a period from March 29, 2024 up until Tuesday (Jan 21).
Chief Magistrate So Wai-tak adjourned the case to March 3. Li will remain in custody as he did not apply for bail.
Police reiterated that offenders of this serious crime could face up to seven years of imprisonment for a first conviction.
