Seven new exhibitions will be held at the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM), including one showcasing 250 ancient Egyptian treasures to attract 600,000 visitors.
The museum will also present its own collections of ancient Chinese gold in the first-ever traveling exhibition at the Capital Museum in Beijing in November.
The HKPM unveiled its exhibition plans for the coming year on Monday, including four special exhibitions and three new thematic exhibitions.
A major exhibition -- “Tutankhamun and the Secrets of Saqqara” -- will open in November.
“This will be the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of ancient Egyptian treasures in Hong Kong in recent decades, featuring nearly 250 exquisite objects from seven important institutions in Egypt, including the Egyptian Museum and Luxor Museum,” according to HKPM.
The exhibition will also highlight new archaeological discoveries from the large tombs at Saqqara near Cairo, Egypt.
Museum Director Louis Ng Chi-wa said the exhibition has been prepared since June last year and was first held in Shanghai. The most famous exhibits will be selected and presented in the city again.
He added that the exhibition is expected to attract some 600,000 visitors, bringing the total number of visitors throughout the year to more than 1 million.
