Hong Kong witnessed its coldest day so far this winter, with the Hong Kong Observatory recording a minimum temperature of 11.5 degrees at its Tsim Sha Tsui headquarters on Saturday. The mercury dived even lower in parts of the New Territories.
The forecaster said cold weather is expected in Hong Kong tomorrow morning, with temperature differences between day and night being rather large.
It advised members of the public to put on warm clothes and ensure adequate indoor ventilation.
“As it is rather windy on high ground, wind chill effect will be significant. The temperature felt by the body will be lower than the actual air temperature. Prolonged exposure to wintry winds may lead to hypothermia,
“Make sure heaters are safe before use, and place them away from any combustibles. Do not light fires indoors as a means to keep warm. Please ensure that there is plenty of fresh air in your room when you are using an old-type gas water heater,” said the HKO.
