Former pro-democracy lawmaker Shiu Ka-chun shared on Tuesday (Jan 7) evening that he is receiving palliative care after being diagnosed with stomach cancer in November last year.

In his recent social media post, the 55-year-old mentioned that he has a nasal tube inserted, making it temporarily impossible for him to speak and difficult for him to sleep.
Shiu previously lost 15 kilograms after undergoing emergency surgery to remove half of his stomach and some nearby lymph nodes.
He was first diagnosed with high stomach acid and gastritis after experiencing gastrointestinal discomfort and vomiting in October. However, further tests revealed that he has stomach cancer.
According to the Hospital Authority website, palliative care provides holistic support to patients with life-threatening conditions, addressing physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs for a more peaceful dying process.
