Crisp new banknotes set for Lunar New Year

It’s that time of the year again to get new or good-as-new banknotes for lai see red packets for the forthcoming Lunar New Year at branches of the HSBC, Standard Chartered, and Bank of China (Hong Kong) from January 14 to 28.

These branches of the three note-issuing banks will open at 8 am between January 14 and 16, with the first hour exclusively devoted to the banknote exchange service.

All three banks will also offer online booking services for both new notes and used good-as-new notes  in crisp condition, suitable for lai see - starting from January 7. The three banks will announce more details in due course.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority reminds members of the public that there is no need to rush to exchange their notes during the first few days of the service period, adding that the banks will ensure the supply of these notes throughout the service period.
