Thousands of giant panda sculptures greeted residents and tourists at the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui on Saturday, as part of the exhibition - PANDA GO! FEST HK.
The 2,500 giant panda sculptures will be publicly displayed at the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade today and tomorrow before setting their footprints at three other locations this month.
The second location will be Ngong Ping 360 on Lantau Island for the second weekend of the month and Ocean Park in Southern district for the third. The final location is Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Ocean Park is home to the twin cubs, their parents and two other pandas gifted by Beijing this year. The design of six of the sculptures, made of recycled rubber barrels and resins among other materials, was inspired by these bears.
The exhibition pulled in residents and tourists to Tsim Sha Tsui this morning, with many wanting to get up close for photo opportunities.
A “panda guide” wearing an ultra-realistic panda suit will also meet with visitors at noon and 5.30 pm.
