The MTR Corporation announced on Friday a new benefit for its single full-time employees, allowing them to nominate one relative or friend for free rides on the MTR. This initiative is part of a broader package aimed at enhancing remuneration and benefits to tackle ongoing manpower shortages and recruitment challenges.
The announcement was made in conjunction with discussions by the Legislative Council Subcommittee on Matters Relating to Railways, which focused on the manpower resources for MTR railway services.
Currently, the MTR Corporation employs over 17,000 individuals, with more than two-thirds dedicated to passenger service roles. In response to recent difficulties in attracting and retaining staff, the corporation is set to revise its salary review mechanisms to better link pay with employee performance and introduce the "1+1 Octopus Card" program. This program will allow eligible single full-time employees to extend a free ride privilege to a chosen relative or friend starting next month.
Additionally, the MTR Corporation highlighted the role of the MTR Academy, established in 2016, in fostering talent. To date, the academy has seen 416 graduates, with approximately 60 percent continuing their careers within the corporation.
Looking ahead, the MTR Corporation plans to host recruitment days and deploy mobile recruitment vans across various districts to streamline the hiring process and attract more candidates.
