The Development Bureau has announced updates to the land development and planning proposals for Areas 137 and 132 in Tseung Kwan O, in which the planned marine refuse collection point has been put on hold.
These changes follow feedback from members of the Legislative Council, District Council, local organizations, and residents, as the revised plans aim to better align with community needs and environmental considerations.
For Area 132, the revised proposal includes reducing the number of public facilities from six to five, positioning them at least one kilometer away from the nearest housing estate.
The plan scrapped establishing a marine refuse collection point and reduced the scale of land acquisition by 20 percent, decreasing from the originally planned 25 hectares to approximately 20 hectares.
Enhancements to the area's infrastructure include accelerating the construction of Tiu Keng Leng Park, building a footpath connecting Tseung Lam Highway Garden to Area 132, and conducting studies to determine the best way to connect Area 132 to Lei Yue Mun.
As for Area 137, the authorities propose adding public market facilities to the planned government complex. They are also exploring the best route to connect the approximately 1.4-kilometer-long promenade in the new area to Clear Water Bay Country Park.
Additionally, plans are in place to open the pier at the southeastern end of the new area for public use and to enhance waterway connections within the district.
The authority aims to commence statutory procedures for the relevant draft outline zoning plans, as well as for reclamation, road, and sewerage equipment works in the first quarter of 2025.
The goal is to begin the construction works in phases starting from the end of next year and allow the first batch of residents to move into District 137 by 2030.
