Hong Kong courts are ramping up security efforts following an attempted attack on a Kowloon City magistrate, with heavy presence of police officers and security guards seen at Kowloon City court Tuesday morning.
The move came after a man armed with four knives and flammable liquid was arrested yesterday for trying to attack a magistrate who convicted him over an indecent assault case years earlier.
A large number of police officers were stationed outside the court early this morning, along with two security guards.
Inside the courthouse, security personnel asked people to open their bags for inspection before entering the courtrooms. People were also asked to empty their water bottles and sharp objects were not allowed in.
However, people were not required to undergo metal detection.
One visitor said the security screening was straightforward and, given the incident from yesterday, believed the arrangements were reasonable, with the court managing the situation effectively.
