The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) noted that users can revoke permission on the employment-oriented social media platform to use their personal data for AI training, though the relevant setting for consent to such use is enabled by default.
The watchdog said LinkedIn's privacy policy update "has aroused concerns of data protection authorities in other jurisdictions" and is concerned whether the default opt-in setting accurately reflects users' choices.
It has also contacted the platform for clarification on the issue.
Privacy Commissioner Ada Chung Lai-ling urged LinkedIn users to review the updated policy to decide if they agree to the use of their personal data for AI training.
The watchdog also detailed the steps to assist LinkedIn users in revoking the permission.
