Over 75 percent of direct subsidy schools, along with 73 private schools and 64 international schools, have implemented an average tuition fee increase of four to five percent for the academic year.
The Education Bureau approved fee increases for 53 direct subsidy secondary and primary schools, as well as 137 private and international schools. However, one application from an international school was denied.
The average percentage increase in tuition fees for Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) schools, private, and international schools stands at 4.76, 5.36 and 4.53 percent, respectively.
Three DSS primary and secondary schools' tuition fee increases ranging from 5.61 percent to 10 percent, including St. Paul's Co-educational College, where the yearly fee is now HK$79,700, a 10.1 percent increase from the previous year.
Diocesan Girls' School, which has frozen its tuition fee since 2019, has been granted permission for a 5.3 percent rise to HK$40,000 for the entire academic year.
Diocesan Boys' School will charge Form 1 students HK$59,860 for the academic year, representing a 3.5 percent increase, while Heep Yunn School will charge HK$41,350, reflecting a 5.6 percent annual increase.
In addition, the Education Bureau has examined 705 kindergartens' fee adjustment applications, around 90 percent of half-day kindergartens are exempt from tuition fees, with the median tuition fee per term for full-day or extended full-day kindergartens hovering at HK$998 for the new academic year.
The Bureau added that there are still 23 kindergarten applications pending review.
