Businesses in Hong Kong are experiencing renewed optimism as economic activity rebounds, driven by a strong focus on innovation and technology. This shift has empowered trainers to adopt creative strategies and develop comprehensive programmes designed to attract and retain top talent in a competitive market. As organizations adapt to the changing needs of the workforce, exceptional contributors in this critical area will be recognized at the 2024 Award for Excellence in Training and Development, the only award of its kind in Hong Kong, organized by the Hong Kong Management Association.
The Hong Kong Management Association first held the “Award for Excellence in Training and Development” in 1990, and this year marks its 34th edition. Over the years, this award has evolved to bolster training initiatives across Hong Kong, recognizing exemplary businesses, organizations, and trainers for their contributions to professional standards in the industry.
This year, Ms Margaret Cheng, JP, Chairperson of the Training and Development Award Organizing Committee, highlighted the impressive diversity of participants from various industries, all showcasing high-quality training programmes. Notably, the number of judges has reached an all-time high, signifying robust industry engagement in the training profession.
As the business landscape shifts rapidly, fueled by technological advancements and an increasing emphasis on employee wellbeing, companies are navigating digital transformations that necessitate timely and appropriate training for staff. Cheng emphasized, “Trainers themselves need to understand technology to enhance the flexibility of their training programmes, mastering new technologies such as AI, VR, and AR. This dynamic environment presents both opportunities and challenges for trainers, who must think critically about how to integrate these technologies into their programmes to enhance learning effectiveness.” In the post-pandemic era, many organizations are prioritizing employee wellbeing through programmes focused on stress management and coping strategies. Cheng noted that companies are increasingly collaborating with experts to customize training content in areas like managing negative emotions, which helps create a healthier workforce and enhances team cohesion.
As HKMA continues to champion excellence in training and development, it paves the way for a more skilled and resilient workforce. The ever-changing landscape within the industry underscores the need for adaptability and innovation, positioning Hong Kong as a leader in professional development in the region. The ongoing commitment to high standards will undoubtedly yield significant benefits for both businesses and employees in the years to come.
