As the Hong Kong Observatory will issue the No 8 typhoon signal at 6.20 pm on Thursday, classes of evening schools today and classes of all day schools tomorrow will be suspended, the Education Bureau announced.
When the HKO issues Pre-no.8 Special Announcement this afternoon, classes of all day schools today, including secondary and primary schools, will also be suspended, said the bureau.
The bureau said the HKO expects that gale winds associated with Yagi will affect the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary tonight and tomorrow morning, with local winds strengthening progressively and weather deteriorating. There will also be heavy squally showers and thunderstorms tomorrow.
Considering the latest development and the HKO's forecast of the tropical cyclone, the bureau announced that classes of all day schools, including secondary schools, primary schools, special schools, kindergartens, and kindergartens-cum-child care centers, will remain suspended tomorrow (September 6) in order to ensure students' safety.
If classes of evening schools are required to be suspended tomorrow, the bureau said it will make the announcement in due course depending on the development of the tropical cyclone.
