Indian terrorist suspect Ramanjit Singh, a Hong Kong resident accused of masterminding a 2016 jailbreak in India, was extradited back to his home country by Punjab Police on Thursday.
Singh, 35, is wanted by the Indian government for crimes comparable to 28 offenses in Hong Kong.
He was arrested on June 4, 2016 in India for stealing a car, carrying a revolver without a license and possessing fake car plates as well as fake debit and credit cards. He was also accused of helping six inmates escape from a prison in Nabha on November 27, 2016 after he had jumped bail and fled to Hong Kong.
Interpol had placed Singh, also known as Romi, on a global watch list since then.
Singh was taken into Hong Kong custody in 2018 after his involvement in a 450 million Japanese yen heist in Tsim Sha Tsui. He had remained behind bars since then pending extradition.
Indian authorities yesterday thanked the SAR government for the assistance rendered and shared a photo online showing Singh being escorted by Indian officials onto a plane.
