Fencing gold medalist Vivian Kong Man-wai will join the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) as an Assistant External Affairs Manager starting next Sunday (Aug 11).
After winning gold at the Paris Olympics, Kong announced that she is stepping down as a full-time athlete and is excited about her new career direction to give back to Hong Kong.
Many were curious about her next career, and today, HKJC Executive Director of Corporate Affairs Raymond Tam Chi-yuen posted on his personal Facebook page announcing and welcoming Kong on behalf of the Club in joining the Corporate Affairs Division.
Tam said Kong will have a wide scope of work and will assist in rolling out a series of projects, with the focus ranging from social welfare, youth affairs, sports development, etc., and will act as a bridge between the Club and relevant external stakeholders.
The director also mentioned that the HKJC has been committed to supporting the development of elite athletes, increasing competitiveness, along with their career development post-retirement, and he was happy that after Kong won gold, she believed that the club's motto and core values match with her desire to contribute to society.
He believes that Kong can fully play to her strengths and launch a new chapter in her career.
The Home and Youth Affairs Bureau also previewed that for the upcoming 2024 youthfest@HK, the Youth Development Summit has invited Kong, Tam, along with the vice president of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, Kenneth Fok Kai-kong, as guest speakers.
