The Leisure & Cultural Services Department (LCSD) held Sport For All Day today, during which a series of free recreation and sports programs will be open to the public.
Recreation activities for older people and people with disabilities and parent-child exercises will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at designated sports centers in 18 districts.
The theme of this year's event is "Parent-Child Exercise for Fun and Fitness," aiming to introduce parent-child fitness exercises to encourage members of the public to pursue healthier bodies and better relationships among family members.
The SF&OC also set up a Sport for All Fun Day activity booth at the Festival of Sports in Kwun Tong.
Additionally, more than ten organizations held free recreation and sports programs for the public or opened their facilities to use for free today.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu and other government officials also joined the activities to support the Sport For All Day.
Lee -- accompanied by the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, the Acting Director of Leisure and Cultural Services Winnie Chui Hiu-lo, fencing athlete Kaylin Hsieh and karate athlete Tang Yu-hin -- watched a parent-child fitness exercise and parent-child 3-on-3 basketball at Tung Cheong Street Sports Centre in Tai Po.
Other officials, including the Chief Secretary Eric Chan Kwok-ki and the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Erick Tsang Kwok-wai, also joined the recreation and sports activities held at sports centers in various districts.
An elderly who headed to the Morse Park Swimming Pool stated that after knowing it was free today, they came to swim to encourage themselves to take up sports again after their foot injury.
Other swimmers stated that the Olympics inspired them to exercise more, and they also used the free admission to meet with friends while exercising.
A parent bringing her son to a football course said she did not know it was Sport For All Day, and stated that she would have booked an indoor basketball court to let her son try playing basketball.
She further stated that the LSCD recreational venues are very popular and suggested the government conduct more promotions online.
