A new "Future Manufacturing Hall" was established on Monday to showcase Hong Kong's efforts to promote modernizing industrialization and readiness to collaborate with other mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area.
The new Hall, set up under the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), introduces visitors to successful case studies from local businesses and engineers and how the city plays a vital role in assisting the development of a variety of industries.
The most prominent exhibit is the "Microfactory," a machine that streamlines and speeds up the production of custom-made clothing without resorting to mass production.
"It is essentially a factory inside a machine," said Chief Digital Officer Edmond Lai Shiao-bun, "We can create customized clothes that traditionally go through numerous procedures within an hour."
Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong attended the Hall's opening ceremony alongside HKPC chairperson and lawmaker Sunny Tan.
An "AI Applications Hall" had opened in companionship with the "Future Manufacturing Hall," including innovations from different sectors that can replace humans in risky jobs and enhance STEAM education for young students.
Both of the Halls are open to the public.
An unveiling ceremony of the "Hong Kong-Yangtze River Delta Joint Innovation Centre" was also held, aiming to increase cooperation in technological innovation between both regions.
