The Airport Authority announced on Wednesday that the new measure will shorten the security scanning time from 15 seconds to 10, with the amount of carry-on baggage processed up by 20 percent.
Thirty-two full-body scanners that use advanced imaging technology will also be introduced to replace security officers clearing travelers using hand-held metal detectors.
The new system will be trialed at four aisles of the security checkpoint, with the system expected to be implemented across Terminal 1 within this year, according to the Airport Authority.
