Nine male and three female finalists competed against each other at the stroke of midnight, racing up a 14-metre-high mountain covered in 9,000 plastic buns. There were 900 nine-point buns at the top level, 1,700 three-point buns at the mid-level, and 6,400 one-point buns at the bottom. Whoever scores the highest marks wins.
Yip, who last won the title in 2016, defeated reigning champion Chung Yuk-chuen to become the winner this year, while Kung, also a registered nurse, won the women’s group a second time after her previous win in 2019.
Nine-time champion Jason Kwok Ka-ming failed to get into the top three, yet he won the "Full Pockets of Lucky Buns" award for gathering the highest number of buns.
