Hong Kong's star swimmer Siobhan Haughey and fencer Edgar Cheung Ka-long have won the Best of the Best awards at the Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards (HKSSA), which was referred as the "Oscars" of the sports sector.
The award ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
This year's HKSSA has four award categories: "Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Men," "Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Women," "Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Sports Combination," and "Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport."
Haughey has bagged the Best of the Best HKSSA for Women for the third time. The flying fish said the award is a recognition to local athletes and thanked her team as well as the public for their support.
Edgar Cheung won the Best of the Best HKSSA for Men for the third consecutive year. He thanked the coach for motivating and pushing him to strive for a better performance.
Apart from Cheung, the other four male athletes awarded the HKSSA included golfer Kho Taichi, para-badminton player Chu Man-Kai, table tennis player Wong Chun-ting and tennis player Coleman Wong Chak-lam.
The HKSSA for Women went to Haughey, Vivian Kong Man-wai from fencing, Ng On-yee from billiard, Grace Lau Mo-sheung from Karatedo and Doo Hoi-kem from table tennis.
The HKSSA for Sports Combination were given to badminton mixed double duo Tse Ying-suet and Tang Chun-man; the men's foil team included Edgar Cheung, Ryan Choi Chun-yin, Yeung Chi-ka and Leung Chin-yu; and also the rowing men's coxless pairs Lam San-tung and Wong Wai-chun.
The Hong Kong Men's Football Representative Team, which performed well at the Hangzhou Asian Games, has won the HKSSA for Team Only Sport.
