The Immigration Department (ImmD) is considering introducing electronic arrival and departure cards for visitors to streamline immigration clearance procedures.
Currently, inbound travelers are required to complete the arrival card in paper form, though some other popular tourist destinations like Japan and Korea allow visitors to use e-forms or QR codes for immigration clearance.
The scope of the study on e-arrival and departure cards includes legal basis, system requirements, hardware support, workflow, and other aspects.
ImmD aims to complete the study by the end of this year and will deploy further improvement measures based on the research findings.
It added that it was also exploring the feasibility of using other technology for immigration checks.
When asked if the government collects and analyzes feedback from visitors to understand their expectations and satisfaction with the current immigration procedures, the ImmD said it provides various channels - including telephone, fax, email, and postal services - to facilitate feedback from citizens and travelers.
