The Drainage Services Department (DSD) has installed more than 180 artistic manhole covers at 10 locations across Hong Kong, aiming to beautify the community.
The 10 locations installed with the unique manhole covers include Tai O, Lei Yue Mun, Lam Tsuen in Tai Po, Kai Tak River, Tsui Ping River in Kwan Tong, Cha Kwo Ling Promenade, Ngong Ping, To Kwa Wan Promenade, Hoi Fai Road Promenade in Tai Kok Tsui, and Butterfly Valley Road Pet Garden.
Lei Yue Mun Village has already installed 122 artistic manhole covers featuring designs inspired by the fishing boats and archway.
The DSD said it has selected several tourist spots with distinctive Hong Kong characteristics and high foot traffic for the installation of the artistic manhole covers.
In addition, the DSD is incorporating the "Rivers in the city" concept into its river revitalization projects, including the works at Staunton Creek Nullah in Wong Chuk Hang. The project is expected to be completed by 2027.
