Legco makes way for Article 23 legislation bill scrutiny

The Legislation Council’s Bills Committee on Safeguarding National Security Bill has introduced an additional four sessions of meeting on Tuesday to continue scrutinizing a draft legislation of Article 23 of the Basic Law.

The Development Bureau announced on Monday that it will withdraw the Waterworks (Amendment) Bill 2023 from the Legco for a second reading - initially scheduled for Tuesday.

The four additional sessions for the Bills Committee on Safeguarding National Security Bill will see lawmakers continue scrutinizing the bill clause-by-clause.

As of noon, the committee has gone through the first 81 clauses of the bill, out of a total of 181, on its fourth day of such meetings.
