The government announced during its annual budget speech that the administration will make good use of Victoria Harbour to offer "enchanting experiences" for tourists and locals by holding monthly fireworks displays and drone shows.
The executive director stated today that the drone shows and the fireworks display could be rolled out in May and June and possibly coordinate with ongoing festivities such as the May First Golden Week, the Cheung Chau Bun Festival, and the Dragon Boat Festival among others.
He also said that other organizations are planning on holding smaller-scale fireworks displays and drone shows, believing that this will have a good overall effect on Hong Kong.
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung Yun-hung stated that just using the fireworks display is not enough to attract tourists, as its main purpose is to enrich the tourists' experience and use Victoria Harbour to encourage them to stay longer or overnight.
Yeung said that it is not a paid event, and it is difficult to calculate the economic benefits.
Its overall economic benefits will depend on the entire period, but he believes it will help stimulate surrounding business activities and promote the overall tourist industry.
