An exhibition match between Inter Miami, starring Argentine World Cup winner Messi, and the Hong Kong team was held at 4 pm in the Hong Kong Stadium.
Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham was the officiating guest for the match. He took photos with some VIP guests on the pitch, including Hong Kong swimming star Siobhan Haughey.
There were also dragon dances and performances by local singers before the exhibition match.
Both teams arrived separately and warmed up on the field, including Spanish football stars Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. Alba also shook hands with some of the Hong Kong players.
However, Messi and Luis Suarez have not joined the warm-up session.
Some local football fan clubs also gathered to cheer for the Hong Kong team, and the coach, Jorn Andersen, waved to them.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau Ying-wah, and Secretary of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Kevin Yeung Yun-hung also shook hands with the players before the match.
