Four teenagers have sparked online outrage after a video circulated on social media saw them splashing water and coke at a street sleeper in a pedestrian tunnel.
According to the video, a teen is seen running towards a street sleeper and splashing water and coke at him. Another teen behind also follows suit and pours water at that street sleeper, leaving him awake and shocked while they run towards the elevator at the end of the tunnel.
It is understood that the incident occurred in a pedestrian tunnel in Happy Valley.
Another video on Instagram also shows a group of teenagers splashing water at a man in a park near Morrison Hill Road. It remains unclear if these teens are the same group involved in the ambush on street sleeper.
The videos soon drew attacks from other netizens as they blasted the teens for treating the street sleeper poorly.
“Hope you’ll become a street sleeper one day so we can pull pranks on you,” one wrote.
Another asked: “How is this funny.”
“What is wrong with them? Street sleepers are also human.” a third commented.
Many others opened fire at the teens, saying street sleepers have their dignity and the teens should try sleeping on the street while being covered by newspapers.
A secondary school in Stanley confirmed that one of the involved teens is their form four student surnamed Cheng.
The school's principal said that what Cheng had done was wrong and didn't match the school's teaching of moral values. The school will also follow up on the incident in a serious manner.
The school has spoke to Cheng and initiated its crisis management mechanism to support other affected students.
The principal hopes the public can give some room for Cheng who is now facing immense pressure. He also believes the matter will be properly dealt with.
