Residents of the now-redeveloped Pei Ho Street in Sham Shui Po are clueless about the murder and attempted robbery case 32 years ago.
Police on Sunday (Nov 11) arrested a 59-year-old man in connection with the case that happened in 1991, in which a 56-year-old man died.
The suspect was nabbed when he came from the mainland to Hong Kong yesterday morning. He was part of a three-man gang that stormed the Shun Fat Company watch shop on June 9, 1991, with one of them shooting a shopkeeper in the head.
The trio boarded a private car and fled the scene.
Thirty-two years after the incident, the robbed watch shop and the surrounding area have been redeveloped into private buildings and recreational spaces.
Most of the residents nowadays have no idea about the case or are familiar with the scenes of that day.
A wine cellar on Pei Ho Street has been open for over 30 years, but the owner said he knows nothing about the incident.
The employees of a congee restaurant with over 40 years of history - which had changed hands multiple times - stated that the current owner took over the shop around seven years ago and did not know about the incident either.
An elderly surnamed Wong said he remembered the chaotic scenes when a swarm of police officers were alerted to the area.
He added that the watch store continued to operate for one year after the incident before it closed down. The vacant shop did not have a second tenant until it was resumed by the government for redevelopment a few years ago.
