A Hong Kong jewelry dealer was robbed in Southern California as a video circulated online shows the man get out of the car and kneel on the ground with his hands in the air when facing the four robbers.
The robbery occurred around 1.30 pm on October 24 when the Hongkonger was driving a black Alfa Romeo on the eastbound 10 Freeway near Arlington Avenue, the Los Angeles Times reported.
According to the video, the four robbers crashed their black van into the Hongkonger’s car and the victim slowly moved out of the car. As the robbers – armed with a crowbar and a hammer – got out of the van and rushed to look inside the car and the trunk, the victim kneeled with his hands in the air.
The robbers then got onboard the white getaway sedan and fled the scene.
The California Highway Patrol later confirmed that the victim is a jewelry dealer from Hong Kong and he left the U.S. the next day after the incident.
Los Angeles TV station KNBC cited multiple law enforcement sources and reported that the Hongkongers “had likely been followed from a business location just before the robbery.”
The robbers could also be the same organized ring of thieves who were related to recent heists involving other jewelry dealers, the broadcaster said.
No arrests have been made and there were no further updates to the investigation as of Monday, according to NBC 4.
