The General Studies for primary schools will be divided into science and humanities subjects and implemented progressively starting September 2025, according to the Education Bureau.
The Bureau distributed posters and leaflets stating that the science subject will be categorized into four areas - Life and Environment; Earth and Space; Mass, Energy and changes; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Society - with 15 themes.
According to the Bureau, the curriculum aligns with the national strategy of "invigorating the country through science and education" and fosters children's creative and scientific potential from an early age.
Teachers will also get 30 to 45 hours of training, as well as teaching resources and a safety handbook for science subjects as reference.
It is now recommended that the overall teaching hours for science subjects per year for primary one and two students be no less than 37, while at least 56 hours for other senior classes.
