On Wednesday, the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) tabled documents on the latest development progress for "Airport City" to the District Council, including the fully automated transportation systems connecting the airport and Tung Chung.
The Airport City's development plan consists of the projects at Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities Island of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the auto transport system "Airport City Link," and the SKYCITY that comprises of offices, hotels, retail, dining, and entertainment facilities.
According to the documents, the Airport City Link will be a vehicular and pedestrian bridge run by an autonomous transportation system connecting HKBCF Island and SKYCITY. The system will later extend to Tung Chung town center, totaling about 3.8 kilometers.
The ride between Sky City and the artificial island will take around 2-3 minutes, while it will take 8 to 10 minutes to travel to and from SKYCITY / artificial island and Tung Chung.
The construction of the Link is planned to start in 2025 and could be completed by 2028.
In addition, AAHK also plans to build a pier for yachts and small boats right next to the SKYCITY and enhance the beautification of the harbor front along with the construction of a waterfront promenade.
