Woman arrested for doxxing husband she is divorcing and his close female friend

A 30-year-old Chinese woman was arrested on Tuesday in Kowloon for doxxing her husband she is now divorcing and his close female friend on a social media platform. 

Investigation by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) revealed that the arrestee and the male victim are now arranging a divorce and as they lived separately, the male victim developed a close relationship with the female victim. 

In April, the female victim’s personal data was used to set up two accounts on a social media platform to publish various messages containing the personal data of the victims with negative comments on them. 

The personal data of the male victim disclosed in the messages included his Chinese name, alias, name of residential estate, area of work, occupation and photos. 

On the other hand, the personal data of the female victim disclosed included her Chinese and English names, alias, nickname, place of work, name of company, occupation, license number of her occupation and photos. 

The arrested woman is now remanded in custody. The PCPD said they will continue the investigation into the case. 

The PCPD reminded the public that they should not dox others because of personal disputes. Doxxing is not a means to resolve disputes and it would only escalate conflict. 

The PCPD also warned that doxxing is a serious offense and the offender upon conviction could be fined up to HK$1 million and jailed for five years.
