A 70-year-old man was hit by a taxi driven by a 79-year-old driver near the intersection of Cheung Sha Wan Road and Cheung Wah Street on Wednesday night, with police suspecting that someone had failed to comply with a light signal on a light signal crossing.
The accident happened at around 11 pm yesterday when the taxi was heading towards Mong Kok via Cheung Sha Wan Road.
It is understood that as the taxi neared the intersection, the 70-year-old crossed the road with the taxi failed to brake in time, hitting the elderly. The 70-year-old sustained severe injuries to his head.
The elderly was rushed to Caritas Medical Centre unconscious for treatment, and was then transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital for follow-up checking.
Police arrested the 79-year-old taxi driver for dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm. However, according to sources, the 70-year-old may have disregarded the light signals when crossing the road, leading to the accident.
