The incident occurred around 2am when the 22-year-old woman surnamed Zhao had a FaceTime video call with her boyfriend, Hu, also 22, during which the two had a heated argument.
Zhao suddenly hopped over the railing and jumped into the sea. A 46-year-old angler surnamed Lam immediately rushed to the rescue and grabbed Zhao by her hand but lacked the strength to pull her back onshore.
Lam then cried for help and alerted staffers of a bar nearby, who threw a lifebuoy down and reported it to the police.
Zhao held on to the lifebuoy until firefighters arrived, and two of them jumped into the sea to rescue Zhao, who was conscious and barefoot.
The boyfriend Hu also arrived and gave Zhao his slippers.
Zhao, accompanied by Hu, was sent to the hospital in an ambulance.
If you or someone you know are having suicidal thoughts, help is available.
