With three weeks of paternal leave, three weeks of child-bonding leave and two ‘Power Up Days’, Hong Kong’s iconic theme park takes pride in being a family-friendly workplace that values staff well-being.
Fully aware that the key to the magical moments at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL) lie in the efforts of its happy cast members, HKDL strives to provide the best work-life balance by offering its cast members more days-off and extra holidays to recharge.
Starting from this month, its five-day parental leave will be stepped up substantially to three weeks, and extends to cast members with adopted children and step children.
On top of that, an additional three-week child-bonding leave helps parents build a close relationship with their new kids under the age of 18 who join the family.
Furthermore, two extra days-off, or ‘Power Up Days’, are available this year to cast members to recharge and relax to promote their well-being.
All of these holidays are fully paid and are applicable to both frontline and back-office cast members, according to Chan Wai-quen, Vice President of Human Resources at HKDL. “We are dedicated to providing a family-friendly and inclusive workplace and such cast benefits are rare in the service and tourism industry,” she says.
Over the past two years, HKDL has won multiple human resources awards. Among them are awards presented by Job Market and CTgoodjobs:
- Employer of Choice Award 2021
- Employee Engagement Award
- Corporate Training Excellence
- COVID-19 Caring Employer
- Top Happiest Culture Award
- Best Employee Engagement Strategy Award
Ken and Daisy both work in HKDL’s hotel restaurant, where they met each other a decade ago and have been together ever since. Recently, Daisy gave birth to her second child and Ken gets a total of 6 weeks’ parental and child-bonding leave.
“Although my wife has 17 weeks of maternity and child-bonding leave, she has to take care of our newborn as well as our elder daughter, thus she needs my help. I’m so glad that I can have more time to take care of my family and let my wife get enough rest,” says Ken. “Not many companies offer child-bonding leave which allows working parents like me to cherish precious moments with my children.”
Kona from the Sales team will welcome her third baby at the end of October. She is happy that she can spend more time with her kids.
“It’s not easy for working mothers to take care of their children,” she says. “I am thankful for the company’s leave arrangements that allow us to have more time to witness the growth of our little ones.”
Candy is a new mom from the Communications and Public Affairs team. She agrees that child-bonding leave and other benefits are important to working families:
“I can have more rest after giving birth after which I can work flexibly, such as working from home during the pandemic,” she notes. “The working environment here caters to the needs of working parents, giving us peace of mind at work and at home.”
