The incident happened at Lee West Commercial Building on Hart Avenue at around 2pm on Thursday while the Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal was still in effect, indicating heavy rainfall exceeding 30 millimeters per hour.
It was understood that the male tenant of the 14th-floor unit, named Chiu, tried to pull the air-con back in place after spotting the anchor holding it about to fall off.
According to the man himself, the air-con fell off the moment he tried to pull it back onto its bracket, adding that he continued to grasp it, hoping it would not fall and injure any passersby.
His colleagues immediately called for help, and the firefighters arrived at his office around 30 minutes later to help bring the air-con back to safety.
He told reporters that his hands were a bit sore after the incident. The air-con was said to be a 3/4HP window-type air conditioner.
