Hongkong Post said on Sunday that it will continue to provide essential mail services including registered mail in the midst of the severe Covid-19 outbreak.
The announcement comes after the postal department said that it will suspend local parcel and courier services from Monday until further notice.
The department will continue to provide essential local and international postal services.
The local registered mail service will allow senders to mail items of up to 2 kg, while items not exceeding 20 kg can be sent using the EC-Get service.
A message will be issued to the recipients upon arrival of the mail items notifying them to collect their items at post offices or iPostal Stations.
In the statement, the department added that it will deploy resources to cope with manpower shortages arising from absence of staff who have tested positive for Covid-19.
“Hongkong Post apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the adjustment of its services,” it said.
A big number of post office staff members have tested positive for the coronavirus since the fifth wave began, causing the temporary closures of multiple offices.
