The lobby of Ha Kwai House at Kwai Chung Estate was flooded with angry residents upset about crowded testing environments during an extended lockdown.
The building was locked down on Monday night and the next day government extended the lockdown until Saturday (Jan 29).
A video filmed at the lift lobby of the block was uploaded to Facebook on Wednesday. It showed furious residents complaining about authorities not giving clear instructions and making appropriate arrangements for compulsory testing.
“What about the 1.5-meter social distancing? It is more dangerous now!” a resident yelled among the crowds.
A man also walked in front of a health official there and shouted, “Open the door!”
“What are you doing? There is no arrangement at all, and we don’t even know where the waiting line starts or ends,” other tenants said.
One netizen commented on the video, saying he was also at the scene.
“Even the healthy ones are going to be sick given how packed the place is,” one wrote.
“If one of the residents at the lobby was infected, things could seriously go wrong,” another warned.
On another note, a 35-year-old technician who lives in Kwai Chung Estate appeared in West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on Thursday for allegedly spitting on the doors of Ha Kwai House flats.
Ng Lun-chung was charged with loitering causing concern, for loitering in the corridor on the eighth floor of Ha Kwai House and causing residents concern for their safety and well-being on January 22, 2022.
Ng didn’t need to enter a plea yet, and the case was adjourned to February 24 pending further police investigation. His bail application was rejected due to the Omicron outbreak and public health concerns.
It was understood that Ng claimed he suffered from nasal allergy when the incident occurred.
