The neighbor also set fire to his home, a shack in Tseung Kwan O, allegedly over a dispute about a dog. He has been arrested and is remanded for questioning.
The incident occurred at 8.37pm on Monday evening when a blaze suddenly broke out at a shack near the hills in Ma Yau Tong Village in Tseung Kwan O. The fire was upgraded to a No.3 alarm fire at about 9pm.
Firefighters arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire and rescued 69-year-old Chan who sustained burns. He was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and is in critical condition.
It is understood that Chan had an argument over the issue of keeping a dog with the 67-year-old neighbor surnamed Sun, who splashed flammable liquid at Chan and started the fire.
After the investigation, police arrested Sun for wounding. The case is being handled by the Tseung Kwan O district crime squad.
Chan is one of the first-generation stuntmen in Hong Kong and is dubbed "the father of stuntmen", specialized in handling explosives and car racing.
He was in several Jackie Chan movies, including Police Story (1985). In Thunderbolt (1995), he performed a vehicle stunt which saw him jump a car 50 meters through the air.
