Three Hong Kong team gymnasts including champion vaulter Shek Wai-hung are being isolated at Penny’s Bay Quarantine Centre after their coach Sergiy Agafontsev was confirmed with Covid-19.
After the Tokyo Olympics, the team headed to Kyushu in Japan for the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships last month, and then to Ukraine for further training.
The group has returned to Hong Kong from Ukraine, but Agafontsev could not come home because he was confirmed with Covid-19 before boarding the plane.
Shek and fellow teammates Ng Ka-ki and Frankie Lee Man-hin passed the Covid-19 tests before boarding the plane but were classified as Agafontsev’s close contact and sent to the Penny's Bay Quarantine Centre upon landing at the Hong Kong International Airport.
