The family of a mainland tourist that was killed by a window falling from The Mira hotel has filed a court case to seek compensation.
Zuo Shaofeng, 24, was hit by the window from the four-star hotel on January 21, 2019 and died on the same day.
Her family member Pan Ronglan filed the writ, suing a cleaner Rai Sabita Kumari and the company managing the hotel.
The cleaner neglected her duty, and her employer should bear responsibility, the writ stated. It did not spell how much compensation was deemed appropriate.
Zuo arrived from Foshan and was walking with a boyfriend outside the hotel on Nathan Road at around 10.30am when the 144-by-30-centimeter aluminum window from the Mira's 16th floor struck her on the head. She fell unconscious in a pool of blood.
She was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei, where she died at 12.16pm.
Also hit by the window, the boyfriend, Huang, 36, was slightly injured. He left the hospital after treatment.
A cleaner, 39, was arrested after for allowing an object to fall. She had been cleaning the room from where the window -- including its frame and the glass -- fell. She was released unconditionally later.
Police said there was insufficient evidence to prosecute the hotel nor the cleaner.
