Minibus crashes into Light Rail train near Yuen Long station

A red minibus crashed into a Light Rail train on route 761P from Yuen Long to Tin Yat near Yuen Long Station on Wednesday morning. 

At 6.23am, a minibus from Sheung Shui to Yuen Long was traveling along Castle Peak Road in Yuen Long when it crashed into the Light Rail train near On Lok Road. 

The minibus driver and a male passenger, along with two female Light Rail passengers, were injured and sent to the hospital. 

The front of the minibus was crushed, and a carriage of the train was also damaged. 

The police are investigating the cause of the accident and have not ruled out the possibility of someone running a traffic light. 

As a result of the accident, LRT lines 610, 614, 615 and 761P had to divert to avoid the route from Tong Fong Tsuen station to Yuen Long station. The MTR arranged free shuttle buses to run between the Hung Tin Road Emergency Platform in Yuen Long and Yuen Long station to pick up affected passengers. 

The minibus and the train were later removed, and MTR staff members were sent to investigate the damage to the track and clear the scene. 

At around 7.30 am, the MTR is said to have resolved the problems and the Light Rail gradually resumed service.
