Twelve activists including Albert Ho Chun-yan and Figo Chan Ho-wun were sentenced to imprisonment of between 6 to 10 months over the banned June 4 vigil last year.
They pleaded guilty in district court to either participating in or inciting others to take part in an unlawful assembly at Victoria Park in memory of the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown.
Three defendants were sentenced to 10 months' imprisonment. They included Albert Ho, the former vice chairman of vigil organizer Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements in China; Wan Siu-kin, an alliance member; and Chan, former convener of Civil Human Rights Front.
Labour Party's Kwok Wing-kin and alliance member Chiu Yan-loy got eight months of jail.
Cheung Man-kwong and Mak Hoi-wah, also alliance members, got eight months of imprisonment, suspended for 18 months.
Leung Kwok-wah was jailed four months, suspended for 12 months.
Former lawmakers Cyd Ho Sau-lan, “long hair” Leung Kwok-hung, Eddie Chu Hoi-dick and Yeung Sum got six-month imprisonment.
As some of the defendants are serving sentences for other unauthorized assemblies over the past two years, the court will allow them to serve their sentences concurrently.
After taking this into consideration, the following defendants will be jailed for a combined period of:
- Albert Ho: 18 months
- Figo Chan: 18 months
- Cyd Ho: 14 months
- Leung Kwok-hung: 22 months
- Yeung Sum: 14 months
