Attention to hygiene is important during the pandemic, but it can also cause arguments, as seen in a video involving an Uber ride.
In the video captured inside the Uber, a female passenger of a seven-seater took out a bottle of suspected disinfectant to spray on the seats right after she entered the vehicle.
She was stopped by the driver, who said he would cancel her ride and criticized her for not asking for his permission before spraying the unknown liquid inside the vehicle. “What if it is corrosive acid?” he asked.
The passenger was taken aback by the driver's reaction, and unhappy about the cancellation, as she was in a rush.
“Why can't I cancel? You are damaging my car. How do I know what liquid it is?” he responded.
The woman then left the car and asked for another Uber.
Netizens were divided about the case. Some said it was impolite for the passenger to start spraying without asking the driver's permission. “It's impolite and disrespectful. She should ask the driver first, not start spraying right after entering the car,” one said. Another said: “It is damaging to spray alcohol on leather seats.”
Others said the quarrel arose from misunderstanding. “They acted civilly in the incident. It's only that the passenger didn't know leather seats cannot be sprayed on. It would be better if she had asked first, or if the driver had offered a clearer explanation (for stopping her spraying),” one pointed out.
