Family members of those who died in the Tai Po taxi crash paid tribute to their loved ones at the accident scene this afternoon.
A taxi rammed into people crossing Kwong Fuk Road in Tai Po on Sunday, killing two and injuring eight. The taxi driver was charged with dangerous driving causing death.
Citizens kept coming and left flowers at the site to express condolences. Police also arrived at the scene. Officers cordoned off the road around 4pm, allowing families of the deceased to stage a Chinese ritual.
Families with flowers, joss sticks and offerings was led by a Daoshi – a Chinese Taoist master and paid tribute to those who died in the incident.
The ritual was finished around 5pm. The Transports Department announced that all lanes of Kwong Fuk Road (both bounds) between Po Heung Street and Wan Tau Street are re-opened to all traffic..
A 59-year-old man died at the scene in the incident, while another 63-year-old woman passed away yesterday's morning.
Four injured patients are still in hospitals. A four-year-old boy is in critical condition. His mother who is expecting, and the wife of the 59-year-old man are in serious condition.
The taxi driver is in stable condition.
