This summer, pent-up travel demand in Hong Kong is bursting at the seams. As more Hong Kong locals get out and enjoy the summer, Trip.com, the global online travel agency, is seeking to incentivise residents to be fully vaccinated, including HK$50 million in prizes, free international flight tickets and travel product coupons.
Trip.com has recently launched its "#BestShot Wins a Trip" campaign with prizes totalling HK$50 million. Participants will receive a 5% off hotel coupon and also have the chance to win other great prizes, such as a pair of Air Canada international flight tickets, and up to five sets of entertainment vouchers to use in Hong Kong.
“Vaccinations are key to the global travel revival,” said Hillman Lam, General Manager of Trip.com Hong Kong. “As one of the travel industry leaders, we advocate for building a safer environment for travellers so that more Hongkongers can travel safely and support local tourism.”
During the past 18 months, many Hong Kong residents have turned to staycations to enjoy their vacations, and this has significantly boosted support for the local tourism sector. Since the initial outbreak of COVID-19, Trip.com has been holding various staycation campaigns to boost the local market and meet consumer demand. The latest Trip.com “Weekend Super Sale” campaign, which offers staycation hotel products at 50% off every Friday to Sunday, has been a huge success. On 16th July, the number of hotel bookings on Trip.com HK, reached almost 7,000 bookings, hitting the highest single-day booking volume in the past two years. Trip.com also holds the “Wednesday Cheers” promotion every Wednesday, offering a 72-hour flash sale offering top weekend hotel deals.
The new collaborations forged by Trip.com in recent months include one with Fresh, a world-renowned skincare brand to conduct a themed staycation campaign in Royal Hotels, Hong Kong. During the campaign, over 21,000 Royal Hotels guest rooms were booked through Trip.com, and the turnover reached HK$10.2 million.
Apart from the staycation hotel offers, Trip.com strives to collaborate with partners that help travellers get the most out of their money. Hongkongers will soon be able to use their HK$5,000 Consumption Vouchers to book tickets, hotels, and flights via the Trip.com app and website. In August, users will start to receive an extra discount if they use their Consumption Vouchers on Trip.com.
“‘Local Focus’ has been our marketing strategy, and we will continue to introduce travel products to satisfy Hong Kong customers’ demands and boost the recovery of local tourism,” Hillman Lam said.
Trip.com is a fast-growing online travel agency serving 27 countries and territories in 20 languages, offering over 1.2 million guest rooms in 200 countries, and 2 million flights linking over 5,000 cities. It also helps with local travel, covering train tickets, car rentals, and airport shuttle buses.
