East Rail services between Mong Kok East and Hung Hom stations will be suspended once again this Sunday on July 4, the sixth of ten suspension days this year to facilitate critical bifurcation works for the cross-harbor section of the East Rail Line.
MTR Corp said the East Rail services will end at Mong Kok East station, while point-to-point free shuttle bus services between Hung Hom and Kowloon Tong stations will be provided.
But it advised passengers commuting between Hung Hom and places along the East Rail Line to take alternative routes via the Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line or West Rail Line at interchange stations including Kowloon Tong, Prince Edward, Mong Kok, Mei Foo and East Tsim Sha Tsui stations.
A special fare arrangement will also be in place on that day to ensure passengers not to be overcharged.
The MTR Corp said in order to connect the existing East Rail Line to the newly constructed railway section and platforms of Hung Hom Station, bifurcation works are being carried out at the section between Mong Kok East and Hung Hom stations.
“The works involve track re-configuration for connection to the new section, installation of overhead lines as well as modification of part of the equipment of the existing signaling system,” a spokesman added.
Earlier, the MTR Corp announced it would be suspending services between Hung Hom and Mong Kok East stations on 10 selected Sundays from January to October to make room for bifurcation works for the extension of the East Rail Line across the harbor to Admiralty station.
The first suspension day was on January 10, while the remaining construction days will be confirmed consequently depending on weather conditions.
