Pro-democracy activist, Agnes Chow Ting, has been released from prison after serving six months for her roles in an unauthorized assembly during the 2019 anti-government protest.
Chow, 24, was greeted by a crowd of reporters, as she walked out of the Tai Lam Center for Women at about 10 am. She transferred from a prison van to a private car without making any remarks.
Supporters shouted "Agnes Chow add oil", with some wearing black t-shirts and yellow masks and one holding a yellow umbrella — a symbol of the 2014 protests.
The activist was charged with inciting and taking part in an unauthorized assembly on June 21, 2019, and was later sentenced to 10 months imprisonment.
Her fellow activists Joshua Wong Chi-fung and Ivan Lam Long-yin were sentenced to 13.5 months and seven months in prison respectively, on similar charges. Lam was released in April this year.
The trio were core members of Demosisto, a pro-democracy group founded in 2016. The group was disbanded hours after Beijing imposed the national security law for Hong Kong last June.
During the protest on June 21, thousands of people flooded the street and blocked the police headquarter in Wan Chai, demanding for the withdrawal of the government's extradition bill, and calling on police to stop labelling the protests as "riots".
