Hikers volunteered in fixing the water tank at Tai Tung Shan, by carrying sand and other materials up to the hill.
Tai Tung Shan is one of the popular destinations for hikers. Yet a water tank there broke recently and caused a serious leak. Walker Sunsetpeak, a group on Facebook therefore called for hikers to volunteer and fix the water tank.
There were too much materials needed for maintenance and they weighed heavily. Therefore Walker Sunsetpeak packed the sand in bottles and cement and adhesive in bags, and then placed it at a gazebo at Pak Kung Au in Lantau Island.
They invited hikers to help carry the bottles and bags up to the hill, and bring it near the water tank. Then they will have the materials to fix the water tank and the public and hikers will have water in the summer.
Some hikers wanting to help came after reading the announcement by Walker Sunsetpeak, while some only found out about the event when they read the notice at the gazebo.
The hike from the gazebo to the tank takes about an hour with a distance of around 2.5 kilometers.
Walker Sunsetpeak fixed the water tank five years ago, still the tank started to leak again after these years.
Some hikers questioned the use of the water tank, and the volunteer explained that the tank has been working since the 60s. The tank collects water for hikers and can be used to put out fire at the hills.
