Bonnie Evita Law, the granddaughter of Bossini founder Law Ting-pong, died after undergoing liposuction and breast augmentation in South Korea.
The 34-year-old had the procedures as part of a birthday celebration in late January.
She is survived by husband Danny Chi, who she was married to for 10 years, and a seven-year-old son.
Chi was set to file a lawsuit yesterday in a Hong Kong court for unspecified damages against the Ollim Plastic Surgery clinic in Seoul, its two doctors and a nurse for alleged manslaughter and forging of presurgery documents.
Chi said he intended to seek damages, including the loss of one-third of his father-in-law's estate upon his wife's death, and substantial annual income received through her.
"Her death was unfortunate, unnecessary and unlawful. It was solely as a result of their gross negligence, greed and incompetence," Chi was quoted as saying by a newspaper.
Barrister Albert Luk Wai-hung said: "Even though a lawsuit was filed in Hong Kong, whether the court will accept it is another matter."
Normally a lawsuit should be filed in the country where the incident happened, he said.
Luk said issues of concern include transporting evidence from South Korea to Hong Kong and whether witnesses would come to the SAR to testify.
Law, who also had a facelift on January 21, died allegedly of complications on January 28 after liposuction procedures on both her arms and upper pelvis and translocation of the fat removed to the breasts, and Botox on both calves.
It was reported that the surgery was allegedly performed by Kim Sung Il, who was the main surgeon involved and claimed to have 10 years of experience as a medical practitioner. He was reportedly assisted by surgeon Jung Tae Gwang and nurse Park Mi Soo.
It was reported that no anaesthetist was present and "a machine was used to administer propofol, together with a strong cocktail of sedatives" by Jung, according to statements given to South Korean police.
Seoul police have launched a criminal investigation.
Family members are expecting a police postmortem report to be ready by next month at the earliest.
